Biking is not only extremely popular in Eugene, it often proves to be the most practical and enjoyable way to get around the city, at least for those who are able. Alton Baker provides a vital part of the bike trails crossing Eugene, connecting the downtowns of Eugene, Springfield, Coburg, and the Valley River areas. Not only are these trails practical for transportation, they are quite beautiful with many running right through the heart of the Whilamut nature area into Springfield’s Eastgate Woodlands. The trails vary from paved to dirt, and scenery ranges from plains to woods. Overall it is a wonderful ride, complete with views of the Willamette River for nearly the entire path.
